#Thrive Thursday: Meet Billie Jo Flythe

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

Weight loss surgery 2013- lost 135 lbs –Major life event for me. I began a transformation mentally as well as physically. I promised myself I would not hold back anymore, I would try new things and most importantly, show my daughter that women can do anything they put their mind to. I learned through this that having confidence isn’t bragging, or showing off, or asking for attention, it is being true to yourself.

What message do you promote?

Summer 2019 we had a  “girls trip” which included my 15-year-old daughter, Mallory, and her friend Riley. I challenged them to give 5 complete strangers a compliment. Not the normal “I like your shirt” compliment, but something that would really brighten someone’s day. Neither had ever done anything like this so the challenge was set. Once the first compliment left their...

LEADERSHIP: A Closer Look at the Brands Paving the Way for Female Empowerment

leadership Mar 12, 2020

In 2020, a brand must do more than simply sell a product. Each company needs to go above and beyond to retain customers and establish its place as a market leader — involvement with wider political matters is a big part of this effort. When brand ethics shine through, customers will
appreciate the company’s commitment when it comes to championing inclusivity and empowerment. When brands wave the flag of empowerment, consumers are bound to listen. Some brands go above and beyond to ensure that both their staff and their customers feel supported. Whether that’s through the initiatives that they support, employee benefits to ease the strain on working mothers, or a range of makeup that is inclusive of all, every step towards inclusivity and empowerment represents a huge milestone. With this in mind, let’s take a look at the businesses that are championing empowerment in 2020.
Bumble
Bumble focusses on female empowerment down to its very core. This game-changing...

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Lisa Erickson of Chakra Empowerment for Women

thrive thursday Mar 09, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

My passion these days is helping women connect to their energy body through mindfulness and meditation work for stress management, healing, goal attainment, and empowerment. But that wasn’t always the case – I began my career in technology, and worked long days against tight deadlines for years. It took a toll on my mind and body, which led me to meditation. Chakra (energy center) meditation, in particular, was life-changing for me, validating energetic and intuitive experiences I had had my entire life, but never had the language to understand. I began seriously studying energy healing and chakra meditation on the side and did that for many years.

A health crisis after the birth of my first daughter triggered a bigger shift and ultimately led me to my current work. The medical establishment wasn’t able to help me, and so I had to truly draw upon the energy healing training I had...

LIFESTYLE: Curve Balls and My New Story

lifestyle Mar 05, 2020

The last week in December through me a few curve balls.
Not that I hadn’t had curve balls thrown before. I have. And I’ve survived. Always with a little help from my friends.
In one week, in the space actually of two days, three interesting balls lobbed my way.
First, after weeks of my car sometimes starting, sometimes not, I had dropped it at my favorite mechanic, Car Docs, knowing something was up. Hoping against hope each time I got in my car those last few weeks that my car would start!
That little car started in order for me to get it to Car Docs. It was one of the last times it would start. It was unfortunate; however, my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid would start only one more time. Speaking with Ed at Car Docs, I had to have it towed to a Ford dealer so that the computer systems could be checked out. My insurance kicked in and the Escape was towed, with no promise of them looking at it until next week. My intuition told me this was probably it for the little car that I had...

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Alice Combs, CEO of Vulcan Wire

thrive thursday Mar 02, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I morphed from a food stamp recipient to the CEO of my own corporation. The trajectory in my book, The Lady with Balls: A Single Mother’s Triumphant Battle in a Man’s World begins when I was fired from my planned career path as a clothes buyer. It was explained that I was neither management nor corporate material. Fearing another humiliation of being fired again, I experimented by trying to sell a variety of products - none of which were lucrative enough to support my two daughters and me. I began to ask “what do you need that you can’t get” until one man said, “Honey, I need baler wire. Even the farmers can’t get it.” Now my business, Vulcan Wire, sells over $10 million of wire used to bale recyclable products.

What message do you promote?

My message is of perseverance. To succeed in life or in business one must persevere despite...
