What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?
A lot of people would say I’m privileged to live where I do. And it is so true lol! But I would categorize it more in a grateful concept. My father grew up with absolutely nothing. Living on the streets, stealing surfers lunches from their backpacks early in the morning while they were in the water. He made a life for not only myself, but my mom, my other two siblings, and now my son. I grew up in a little beach town called San Clemente located in Southern California. And it is my own little paradise. My family always jokes about how we live in CandyLand. When I look back and think of the person I was from early childhood, to adolescent year, to now being an adult and a mom. I can say I’m pretty much the same person. My mom and dad always say I’m a healer. I am highly emotional, and would like to think I am intuitive with others emotions. I can empathize with many. I’ve always imagined my life like a garden. And my thoughts are seeds. And I ultimately get to decide what I want to plant. I can plant the seeds of positivity, love, and abundance. Or, I could plant negativity, sorrow, lack, and fear. I’m the person that always spends to much time taking care of other people’s gardens instead of making mine beautiful. And it’s something I am still learning today. But when it’s my time, I want to look back in my life and tell myself, “You helped so many people feel better, even for just a moment”. And for that I will not live on moment of my life in vain.
What message does KY. Selenite Crystal Co. like to promote?
KY. Selenite Crystal Co was originally “KY. Bath Soaks Co”. Wow! Such a throwback (lol)! I had started this company for my rock, my best friend, my mom. From raising three kids, a husband being gone a lot in order to provide. Doing all this while being sick. We almost lost her a couple of months after my son was born. Hardest time in my life. I was a new mom, and had no idea what I was doing. I needed her. She has always been a fan of finding selenite crystals. Even with a IV pole tied to her, and my son in a sling, we would still get out booties out there and find them. So not only do I want to promote wellness, but I promote my mom with each item I am. I promote her beauty, strength, courage, and grace.
In what capacity do you LEAD UP in your community?
Honestly, that is a very difficult question for me. My family is very well known not only in the community of San Clemente, but in the world. My father making a name for himself being a top rated professional surfer, my brother following in his footsteps and will be attending the 2020 Summer Olympics for surfing's first ever appearance in history. I have always been known as the daughter of Dino Andino, or the sister of Kolohe Andino. I hope to one day mark my foot print in my community and inspire others that they can do anything they want to in life. And dreams really do come true.
In business and/or in life, share a struggle you overcame that other women can relate to?
I think that i am very in tuned with peoples emotions and able to empathize on a whole different level because I've been through some crap. At a young age and my mom being so sick was tough. But going into my teenage years, i had experienced a brutal sexual assault that literally turned my world upside down. I was too afraid to tell anyone about it, especially my mom who already had far to much on her plate trying care for my younger sister and me. I believe one of the toughest experiences to go through is to be someones strength while you're at your weakest. because i had kept this to myself for a few years, i had developed an eating disorder from the time i was thirteen to about twenty years old. Now being fully recovered and a mother to a beautiful baby boy, i learned that its not about showing our bruises, but showing our scars to prove we were there. And that it takes a strong heart to love, but it takes an even stronger heart to continue to love after its been hurt.
Did you have a Mentor, Coach or Sponsor along the way that was essential to your growth and success? If so, who was it and why?
I don't have just one mentor, I have many. My mom and dad constantly proving me a home and safe environment. My little sister with her sharp wit that keeps me grounded. My brother who is the hardest working person i have ever met. My best friend Bailey who never leaves my side. I'm pretty blessed with all my mentors.
What is the most rewarding aspect of what you do at KY Selenite Crystal ?
Being proud of myself. Being able to show my son that hard work get you anything you could want. I used to wake up in the morning no money, no happiness, no path. I was lost. And just having my first baby, it messed with me in every way. I thought how could I be the best mom, daughter, sister, and friend. And I wake up now and feel completely content with the person I have grown into. When I get messages from other women telling me that I am an inspiration to them! Like what! me? How? But then they explain that they see the hard work I put up front, and they can really see my love into each candle or soak i make. Now that's what pushes me to keep going. I never thought i would be the person to inspire others.
If you could give one piece of advice for women who are entering the workforce or launching their own business what would that be?
Patience. Not a doubt in my mind. It’s not a easy road. And honestly i don't think it ever will be. With more success comes more responsibly. It is freaking scary. At a blink of an eye, you could hit rock bottom, or flourish. Never forget how far you've come. As a person, or a business woman. Everything you have gotten through. All the times you have pushed on even when you felt you couldn’t. All the mornings you got out of bed no matter how hard it was. All the times you wanted to give up but you got through another day. Never forget how much strength you have learned and developed. Chin up beautiful. Don't let the little things get to you. Because it could ruin you.
