What is your story? Or, in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?
Admittedly, I am a lifelong learner. Yes, I have meandered around different paths and bends in the road to becoming ‘unapologetically’ me. I used to believe I was too much energy and had a lot of categories of “I’m not enough___” to support my flawed (and perfect in the moment) perceptions about myself. LOL!
Life can be both precious and absurdly amusing if you take the time to notice any directions pulling you. My professional background is diverse as a speech-language pathologist, speaker, author, trainer, and coach. I began my business, “It Doesn’t Feel Like Work” five years ago with my life partner, Paul. Freed up from being in an expected box of ‘should,” I’m spreading “The Joy Code” to upgrade perceptions and to become a better version of you.
What message do you promote?
I am committed to championing women to speak their truth, show up as authentic and joyfully enjoy all of life! To shift struggle to flow and ease.
In what capacity do you LEAD UP in your community?
I love connecting with others, expanding and sharing my ‘real’ relationships. I do my best to support success in others. No competition. Co-creation and co-elevation is my mission. Soft skills such as whole listening, empathy, compassion, forgiveness, kindness, and gratitude are how I LEAD UP as a champion for other women in business.
In business and/or in life, share a struggle you overcame that other women can relate to.
Early in life, I was aware I didn’t fit a mold of what was expected of me. Somehow, I lost myself in caring for others, in relationships, and as a mother to two sons. After my practice husband and I released each other, when not looking, I met my life partner. Such a gift to receive!
Another blind spot recognized is I used to believe, often naively, others could shift and grow at the same pace as me. Yes, I judged unfairly at times without considering other’s capacity for learning and growing. So fully embracing being in allowance of unique differences and owning for myself that contrast helps you grow.
What is the most rewarding aspect of what you do?
I have the opportunity to guide women (and men!) in inviting in a ‘rose-colored lens of joy.” To turn on their unique “joy code.” I’m truly delighted to champion others to upgrade perceptions for a more meaningful life and business.
How do you SHOW UP?
My morning practice of meditation, movement, journaling primes me for my day. From there, I take small steps of action – remembering not just the ‘doing’ part but nourishing the ‘being’ part of myself. Being present with myself allows me to be fully present with others. It all energizes me with delight!
If you could give one piece of advice for women who are entering the workforce or launching their own business, what would that be?
Understand your top three values first. Then take care to include those values in your business development. Remember, you do not need to ‘hold’ it all alone! Have an idea of what roles you enjoy doing and then find others for your team. Yes, this is doable even when in start-up mode. Remember to manage your energy! Create a self-care space for yourself in your daily schedule.
