LIFESTYLE: Find your WARRIOR at the Yoga Studio

lifestyle Jan 08, 2020

It’s Tuesday or Wednesday or Friday or Sunday and I’m in one of my very favorite places and spaces. The Yoga Studio at Lifetime Fitness. I hit that door and I know without a shadow of a doubt something is going to happen…change…I will find clarity or hear a message that I need to hear at that exact moment in time.
It happens all the time. In every single yoga class I attend.
Just when I least expect it, the instructor says something amazing that I could have heard a million times before and yet, this time it sinks into my cells. Into my brain. Into my heart. And I never know when it’s going to happen. But it does. Constantly and continuously.
Breathing easier in the yoga studio is a truth for me. I can be turned upside down, challenging myself in a tripod pose or simply flowing and I know I am where I am supposed to be.
It was in THIS yoga studio that I found my Warrior. In those beginning classes during a particularly rough time, I needed Warrior One and...

LIFESTYLE: Life Lessons We Can Take from Children

Life Lessons We Can Take from Children

Whether you’re a parent or a teacher, as a responsible adult, it’s your duty to teach children values and information. Essentially like a role model. This undoubtedly sets the child up with a good start in life. This dynamic isn’t viewed both ways however, but what if children can teach us things too?

Playgrounds can be places of intense competition and arguments for a child. The best part about this though is that the children tend to forgive and forget, perhaps quicker than an adult would do so. Often, time spent mulling an argument over internally isn’t a positive approach, as we are focusing on the dispute itself rather than weighing out a solution for it. Whether we feel at odds with a colleague or a loved one, having the ability to process this feeling and forgive rather than carry a grudge can prove extremely beneficial — allowing us to get on with the important things in life.

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Michelle Tinsley: Co-Founder & COO of Yellowbird

thrive thursday Jan 02, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I’ve always been someone fueled by challenges.  After my undergrad at University of Oregon (Honors college, dual degree in Marketing and Finance) I started working at Intel Corporation in Oregon as a financial analyst.  My desire to continuously learn and add more to my plate was a great fit with the company culture. In 1996 I decided to pursue an evening MBA so transferred to the Phoenix facility that was ramping at the time.  I completed the MBA in 1999 and decided I wanted to continue to broaden my experience outside the company. I joined the Tempe YMCA BOD and eventually served as Chair. I also in 2001 took an assignment in Copenhagen, Denmark as Controller proxy for an acquisition.  I loved the opportunity to live and work in an international setting- and learned the most in an intensive eight month assignment.

By 2011 I was ready to move...

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Miiko Shaffier, Author, teacher and Mom of 9

thrive thursday Dec 26, 2019

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I'm a mom of 9 children. When I was pregnant with my ninth, I was on strict bed rest for about five months. During that time, I wanted to find a way to provide something of value, but I had very limited mobility. My husband is a tour guide who does live broadcasts of his beautiful tours of Israel. I realized that, by using technology, I could create something of value while stuck at home. I asked myself what skill I could share with others. I decided to teach the Hebrew alphabet. It’s something I love to do, anyway.

I was pretty nervous about doing a live broadcast (something I’d never done before) teaching Hebrew reading in an original style (something I was creating in real time.) It was a pretty immediate success and Periscope is a really lovely live broadcasting app. I love the medium and I love getting to know the most unexpected people from around the world.

My book “Learn...

Meet Donna Wojcik, Artist, CEO and Entrepreneur

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I don’t know about awesome - some awe maybe. We all have a unique, long story - especially if we have been working for years and years. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity throughout the years to be creative in every aspect of my life. I have a very positive spirit and believe that it is important to share this spirit as often as possible, with everyone I have the honor of meeting.

My story is your story, and every woman's story. We learn the hard way, we fight for what we need to, we love and show and share this as much as can. We succeed and we fail. We are real and significant. I don’t know that we ever give ourselves as much credit as we should, that is why we need each other. What is really awesome is that we are all in it together - and this understanding helps us muster the strength and fortitude that we all possess...
