#Thrive Thursday: Michelle Bush, Ph.D. Head of Consulting, Vaya Group

What is your story? Or, in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I’m a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a professional leadership consultant/coach…and I’m a lifelong learner.

Growing up, I was curious about everything. In my formative years, I read anything and everything I could get my hands on and challenged myself to get involved in as many clubs, activities, and extracurricular groups I could fit in a given year. I never wanted to miss out on a new experience. I learned valuable lessons from each of them.

My unending curiosity turned to angst in college when I had to choose a singular course of study that was to establish me on a career path for decades forward. After testing out majors in psychology and business, I was introduced to a field of study, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, that married the best of both worlds and allowed me to study the factors that enable great leaders to do great things in their...

Here today and gone tomorrow is an unfortunate and all too familiar story for many organizations.  There's one thing that many of them have in common...They are challenged with systems failure, or simply put, they have no systems in place at all.  When a business allows its systems to operate efficiently, it will help sustain a venture for years to come.

What Are Systems?

Before we dive in, let's talk about what systems are! Have you ever tried to make your mom's favorite dish, but it never really taste the same? Perhaps you were missing an ingredient that was overlooked or one that you weren't even aware you needed. Wouldn't it have been much easier if you had the actual recipe to reference each time to ensure accuracy and a better outcome? A point of reference, the women in my family get together during the holidays and prep the meals before we cook it. We chop vegetables, measure the ingredients, and make the broth. When it's time to cook the meal, it's a breeze....

What is your story? Or, in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

My story: I was born in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, CA. My dad was an abusive alcoholic; my mom a force of love in the world.

One morning, when I was coloring in a coloring book, I thought I saw a merry-go-round of dancing lights in the laundry room. The merry-go-round turned out to be a raging fire. My mom got all of us kids outside, but the house was destroyed. I was four.

My sister and I were sent to live with a stranger for two months. Though the family treated us well, the experience taught me I wasn’t worthy of love; I had no value. I felt abandoned by my parents. I grew up not knowing my own worth. I married a man whose method of loving me included disrespect, control, and criticism, meted-out regularly. I valued his and the kids’ needs more than my own and stayed in the marriage for over 32-years.

I took a government job, but I was lost in the...

LIFT Your Story Celebrating our 100th episode and International Women’s Day with Colleen Biggs Founder of Leap Up For Women
We celebrated with Colleen not only having her as our guest on International Women's Day, it's also our 100th episode for LIFT Your Story.  It seems à propos considering Colleen is such an advocate for inspiring and lifting up women to be celebrating both of these with her.

Why Lead Up For Women?  Colleen explains for the first time that she felt she created it out of her feelings that she had in corporate how she was held in a box.  She felt a lot of places in her life she didn't have a voice.  Even in her past growing up, she said her voice was not heard either.  Although confident in what she did, she just couldn't bring herself to stand out.

Colleen explains that if we don't stand up for what we are about, we won't be seen.

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Maura Barclay, MCBC Consulting, Soulfuleader

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

The hardships of childhood emotional and physical abuse drove me to extremes seeking external validation. (bodybuilding champion, Firefighter, Martial artist) I ignored my truth and didn’t trust my heart—I made all my decisions from fear.

This landed me in the hospital with cancer, which is where I finally learned how to surrender my certainty and listen to my intuition. It also introduced me to my connection with Universal loving, intelligent consciousness.

What message do you promote?

The path to power comes from being a world-class CEO of yourself by mastering your emotions.

The path to freedom comes from trusting yourself.

The path to creating a kind and equitable culture comes from knowing your own worthiness.

In what capacity do you LEAD UP in your community?

I help individuals and transformational coaches make peace with their past so they...
