#Thrive Thursday: Meet Alice Combs, CEO of Vulcan Wire

thrive thursday Mar 02, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I morphed from a food stamp recipient to the CEO of my own corporation. The trajectory in my book, The Lady with Balls: A Single Mother’s Triumphant Battle in a Man’s World begins when I was fired from my planned career path as a clothes buyer. It was explained that I was neither management nor corporate material. Fearing another humiliation of being fired again, I experimented by trying to sell a variety of products - none of which were lucrative enough to support my two daughters and me. I began to ask “what do you need that you can’t get” until one man said, “Honey, I need baler wire. Even the farmers can’t get it.” Now my business, Vulcan Wire, sells over $10 million of wire used to bale recyclable products.

BUSINESS: 5 Things You Shouldn’t Do On Your Work Computer

5 Things You Shouldn’t Do On Your Work Computer

Nowadays, most modern jobs provide work computers. It is essential to get things done. But sometimes people start to loosen up and use a work computer for work-unrelated matters. And that is not a good idea. Here are 5 things you should avoid doing on a work computer.

#1: Don’t Log In Into Open Wi-Fi

If your work computer is a laptop, you probably bring it home or to meetings outside of work. But wherever you are, avoid using a WiFi network without the password. Open WiFi means that anyone is able to get all the details you are filling in on your computer. It’s especially risky to be checking sensitive business data.

Arnas Stuopelis, Chairman of the Board of hosting provider Hostinger, warns: “One of the most common threats on an open network is an attack called Man-in-the-Middle. When a computer connects to the Internet, data is sent from the computer to the website. Open Wi-Fi can allow an...

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

My story is one of overcoming the odds and inspiring others to change the narrative for their lives. Within ten years I’ve gone from being homeless with six children in the streets of Atlanta to a political candidate in the “2017,” election, from a GED to a Doctorate degree in Leadership Studies and became a 12x published author. As a motivational speaker, I’m known as a phoenix who has risen from the ashes. I’m in the process of launching my inspirational products online store. I was recently recognized as the honoree for Georgia Mother of the Year “2020,’ by American Mother’s Inc.

What message do you promote?

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Danielle Williams, sharing her lung cancer journey through positivity

thrive thursday Feb 18, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

Well, my story is one of overcoming and turning a sour life situation into a sweet beautiful expression of love, joy, and inspiration.  I’m a go-getter and I have lived my life with the belief that I can do anything. It wasn’t always that way when I was younger I didn’t know who I was and I lacked a sense of self-confidence.

As I matured and took hold of my life, I started to live with the mental mindset of being my own cheerleader.  I worked really hard at training myself and my brain to look at things through a positive lens. I don’t allow drama or negativity to be a part of my life.  This has helped me tremendously in handling difficult situations and it also brought me a sense of peace in my life. I live by the model Mind of Matter. I don’t mind cause it does not matter.  This way of thinking and keeping a positive outlook on life...

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Leslie Baer Dinkel, Executive Director, Local Hope Guatemala

thrive thursday Feb 13, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

In my early thirties, I was a relatively happy person, but I felt as if something was missing in my life. A friend suggested I volunteer, collecting and distributing food for families that had fallen on hard times. Although I wasn’t sure that would fill my empty spot, I tried it—I felt like I had nothing to lose—and loved it! I felt incredibly gratified being able to help a family in a small way, and often, recipients would tell me that the groceries they received made a big difference in their lives. Over time, this led me to volunteer on Skid Row in Los Angeles, in places I never thought I’d visit. But there was an incredible need. I met so many hungry people, including families. With all the blessings in my life, I realized I had plenty to share, and that I should.

Through people I met volunteering, I ended up doing similar work on Skid Row with the Brothers and Sisters...

#Thrive Thursday: Meet Dr. Marlena, Mentor and Advisor Promoting Purpose and Passion

thrive thursday Feb 06, 2020

What is your story? Or in other words, what made you your awesome self you are today?

I was suffering in silence, feeling alone in a room full of people, feeling less than enough while living behind a mask of “ok” and “alright” to fix myself. I lost everything when my heart stopped on that operating table. Fortunately, for me, I was given a second chance to live out my purpose and I’m now on a mission to ensure others do the same.

What message do you promote?

As women, we are enough! I help them rediscover, redefine and reinvent their identity. Why do I say rediscover their identity? Its because sometimes as they go through life, they tend to lose who they are. You know, especially as women is that sometimes we give, we give to our children, we give to our husband, we give to the job we give to our parents and we're always giving, giving, giving, giving, giving until the point where we feel like that's all that we no longer exist.
